Connecticut's Energy Efficience Fund Programs are funded by a Charge on Customer energy bills.

The programs are designed to help customers manage their energy usage and costs.
PRIME Program

Process Re-engineering to Improve Manufacturing Efficiencies

The PRIME program gives businesses the opportunity to improve productivity and cash flow by learning how to use LEAN MANUFACTURING concepts to streamline production flow, increase efficiencies, lower costs, eliminate waste, and reduce energy consumption.  Access to this type of specialized training and assistance is often limited to very large businesses that have the resources to implement LEAN initiatives.

Now, with support from the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF), you have the technical and financial assistance to learn these techniques, apply them to your business, and gain a competitive edge while conserving energy and reducing costs.

The program provides up to four 3½- day-long LEAN KAIZEN events, tailored to your specific needs and funded through CEEF.  PRIME will pay for 100% of the first 2 LEAN events at your company.  If you elect to continue with the program, PRIME will pay for 50% of the 3rd and 4th LEAN events.

Typical productivity improvements and cost reductions associated with implementing LEAN range from 20% to 50% or more.

You may be eligible to participate in the program if your business:

  • has a SIC code from 2000 to 3999
  • is a customer of CL&P or UI
  • uses 50,000 kWh of energy a month (about $6K/month)
  • has the potential for verifiable energy reduction opportunities

How does it work?

Profit Miners and your utility account representative will meet with you to discuss the program and arrange for a pre-qualification survey. The no-cost survey will examine your entire manufcturing process to identify opportunities to reduce energy usage, improve process, and increase profits. Identified opportunities from the survey will be candidates for LEAN events.

Once you are qualified, Profit Miners will provide customized LEAN training to a team of your employees.  We will then work with the team to implement a LEAN KAIZEN event to reduce energy usage by applying LEAN concepts to improve the process.  The outcome of the event will be documented to illustrate the energy and cost reductions obtained.

After 90 days, we will conduct a follow-up survey to determine how the implemented LEAN event has performed over time.

You benefit from both the captured cost reductions and process improvements, and having a team that can begin to apply LEAN concepts to other areas of your business.

What will it cost?

If you qualify, the program provides for up to four 3½-day-long LEAN KAIZEN events. The cost of each LEAN event is $7,000 and is paid for as follows:

  • Events 1&2 - PRIME pays 100%
  • Events 3&4 - PRIME pays 50%

The benefits obtained from a LEAN event are generally well in excess of the cost of doing it. Our LEAN initiatives typically result in cost reductions and bottom line increases from 20% to 50% or more.

Improvements in productivity, costs, lead times, quality, and customer satisfaction of 30% to 70% are common.

      So, what’s the catch?

No catch – just a great opportunity. By helping you become more productive and reduce your energy needs, your utility company can give that energy to someone else. Your costs go down, their costs stay the same, other people get the energy they need – everybody wins.
